Trips

From the time I was born in Kuwait I have had the pleasure of travelling a great deal and travelling has become my passion. So far I have visited over 50 countries. Here is a selection of major trips that I have recently taken.

Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, Jan - Feb 2006

Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, and Uruguay, May - July 2005

This trip began in Peru with its Inca ruins, highlighted by Machu Pichu, scenic villages surrounded by enormous mountains, and a traditional and very different life, as seen through the eyes of a westerner. With civil unrest and road blockades in Bolivia the travels were diverted into the much more developed yet tradition-preserving Chile, where the Attacama Desert, with its moon-like scenery, was aweing, and a birthday earthquake left me swaying. After the Bolivian situation returned to "normal", my trip cut into the spectacular and desolate Bolivian mountains and plateaus of the Uyuni area, with towering, snow-capped peaks, flamingo inhabited lagoons of red, blue, and green, and the phenomenal salt plains of the Salar Uyuni. Finally the voyage went through northern and central Argentina by way of spectacular mountain scenery, cities with beautiful colonial buildings, and lazy scenic parks and plazas. The final destination brought the buzzing city of Buenos Aires where I jumped out of a plane and fell at 200 kms an hour. more photos

During the Chinese New Year of 2006 I headed off to touch on a bit of South-East Asia. I started in busy Bangkok, which was quite the experience for someone fairly new to Asia. I continued down to a few beautiful spots on some Kos (islands) after which I went down to Malaysia where I relaxed more, being surrounded by a much calmer crowd. I visited KL and wondered about the neat combination of Chinese, Indian, and Malay ethnic groups living in apparent harmony. I concluded my little South-East Asian whirlwind in Singapore, which, I could say for its cleanliness and orderliness, is an Asian Switzerland, or even better. more photos
