Boat House
design and construction
I actively participated in the design and building process of a boat house.
The camp's old boat house at our scout’s camp was consumed
by fire.
A group of scouts and ex-scouts took up the task of to reconstructing the
building.
It was a group effort. All of us were involved in designing, getting
the materials and eventually building the 150m2 wooden structure. It was a
great challenge deep in the Canadian wilderness. I learned a lot about wooden
buildings and their structural elements. It was excellent hands on experience
to see how the beams and posts work and how walls stabilize a building. The
biggest challenge was razing the trusts that span almost 10 meters. I learned
a lot not only about how to make use of 2x4, nails and hammers but also about
power and pneumatic tools.
