Paul Kozak
Office for Metropolitan Architecture
Internship
In April 2011, I was offered an internship position at Rem Koolhaas’ "Office of Metropolitan Architecture" in Rotterdam.
Because of my experience in building models I was assigned to assist in creating
an interactive 1:20 diorama of the new Fondazione in Milan. This hanging structure
allows visitors to step onto platforms and poke their heads inside the model
and inspect handmade miniatures of the Fondazione’s works. The model
proved to be a critical tool for shaping the design of the complex itself,
making clear the importance of visual permeability throughout the complex,
connecting and overlaying the diverse size, range, and type of activities
and exhibition.
The model was created for the Venice Biennale. It is now exhibited at Ca’ Corner della Regina, an 18th century former palazzo and now a Venetian outpost of the Fondazione Prada
